Liquavista is showing new 8.5" full-color and monochrome displays, available across their entire range of platforms: LiquavistaBright, LiquavistaColor and LiquavistaVivid. The displays offer XGA resolution (1024x768).
Available to partners for evaluation through Liquavistaâs partner program, manufacturers and product developers will be able to gain early access to samples.
There are reports that Amazon plans to introduce the next-generation Kindle in August. The new device will be slimmer, and have a better display - more responsive and with a sharper picture. It won't have a color display, nor a touch one.
Liquavista announced a new dynamic frame rate capability down to frequencies as low as 1Hz, resulting in ultra-low power electrowetting display driving.

Jeff Bezos, Amazon's CEO, says that a color E Ink is simply "not ready for prime time production" - and it's a "long way out". The Kindle will remain a "dedicated e-reader" moving forward.
E Ink and Chilin Technology Corporation announced a partnership today to bring E Ink displays to the marketplace. Chilin will be able to produce, distribute and sell vizplex E Ink imaging film. This joint effort combines Chilin's expertise in developing custom displays and turnkey solutions with E Ink's unique low-power, paper-like, sunlight readable, lightweight displays.
One target application for this effort is industrial controls or mobile industrial applications where the low-power and daylight readability qualities of an electronic paper display provide value. Another example use is shop owners struggling to manage in-store product price information in a timely and economical manner. Joint solutions in the electronic shelf label space support dynamic and accurate updates of in-store information displays.
Seiko Epson and E-Ink have developed a new display controller IC for color EPD, the S1D13524. While the color E Ink displays themselves aren't ready yet, it's great to hear that at least a controller will be available soon.

The S1D13524 is a high-performance EPD controller with a built-in color processor for E Ink's VizplexM-enabled electronic color paper displays. The controller has a built-in dither function to minimize host overhead, and can be connected to any host processor through a 16-bit parallel or TFT LCD bus, they said.
Samples of the Epson S1D13524 will be available in June at US$24. Production quantities will be available in December 2010.
3M say that they're gonna show their new Flexible Transparent Barrier (FTB) film at 2010 Society for Information Display (SID) exhibition. The FTB provides water vapor resistance to protect e-paper (or OLED) displays, will also be showcased.
Fujitsu says they have developed a new color e-paper, that's brighter, has a better contrast and refresh rate compared to their previous technology. Fujitsu utilized a redesigned panel structure and image re-write methods to create these new e-paper displays.
