E Ink and Innolux join forces to bring next-gen color ACeP E Ink displays to market

E Ink Holdings announced a collaboration with Taiwan-based display maker Innolux to develop large-size color (ACeP) panels. Specially, EIH will produce ACeP E Ink displays and Innolux will produce display modules and promote them to the market.

The two companies will focus on IoT and Smart City applications. Some example of target applications include public transportation signage (including metro, railway, trains and buses), in-vehicle signage and retail signage.

How Dasung's E Ink monitor assists a Syndome Triple-A patient

Jeremie Rousseau, from France, suffers from a genetic disease called Syndome Triple-A, a rare autosomal recessive congenital disorder. There are several symptoms that result from this disorder - and one of these is alacrima - the inability to produce enough tears. Jeremie finds it very difficult to work with computer monitors - even after following his Doctor's advice to decrease the contrast and brightness of his LCD display.

Jeremie was looking for solutions that will enable him to work for longer times in front of a monitor, and he found a good solution with Dasung's Paperlike E Ink monitors. Jeremie finds that he can work for many hours in front of the E Ink monitors - used to read, write e-mails and read long PDF files.

Waveshare announces a 4.2" and 7.5" NFC-powered E Ink devices

WaveShare announced a new 4.2" 400x300 and 7.5" 800x480 NFC-powered E Ink devices. The idea is that these can be used as small monitors that do not require any batteries or power.

These devices can be updated via a smartphone that supports NFC (via the NFCTag application). Screen refresh rime is around 4-5 seconds. The price of the 4.2" model is $39.99 and the 7.5" model is $68.99. Waveshare says that not all smartphones will have a strong enough NFC to connect to the devices, but Waveshare offers a dedicated NFC board with a micro-SD card for $22. These devices also ship from Amazon.com, costing a bit more than directly via WaveShare.

Santorini and Syros installs E Ink bus station signage technologies

The Greek islands of Santorini and Syros installed solar-powered E Ink bus stop signage displays, developed by Papercast and implemented by AMCO Inspired Technologies.

Both projects, initiated by the Greek government are part of a wider national strategy to develop intelligent transport systems to handle the increasing demand for travel with sustainable transportation. The greek islands hope to use this new technologies to optimise route planning and provide passengers with real-time trip related information.

Paperscast completes an E Ink bus-station signage trial in London

Papercast announced that it has successfully completed a solar powered e-paper bus stop display trial at bus stops on Lower Sloane Street (Stop M) and Waterloo Bridge (Stop P) in central London.

Papercast displays are based on E Ink panels and are powered exclusively from solar panels. The displays are wireless connected and can be easily installed completely ‘off-the-grid’. Transport Of London's Head of Tech & Data - Surface Transport says that Tfl is "very impressed by the advancements made, both in terms of performance and functionality".

Hisense to ship a color E Ink smartphone later in 2020

Hisense demonstrated a smartphone prototype with a color E Ink display, developed in cooperation with E Ink Corporation. The display supports 4,096 colors and Hisense says it optimized the display for applications such as web browsing, wechat, and more.

E Ink announces a new color ePaper technology called Printed Color E Ink

E Ink announced a new color e-paper technology, which they call Print-Color E Ink, which is intended for the smart education and retail markets. It can also be used in e-readers or e-notebooks, though.

E Ink did not provide much details, but says that Print-Color E Ink panels are produced on plastic substrates and are utilizing a different technology than E Ink Advanced-Color ePaper (AcEP) - which seems to be of higher quality and as such targets different applications. The company is working with partners to "launch color electronic paper application products as soon as possible".

RyPax and E Ink collaborate to develop pharmaceutical e-paper packaging

Molded fiber packaging specialist RyPax Wing Fat announced that it will showcase sustainable packaging prototypes for pharmaceutical applications. These smart packaging solutions adopt small E Ink displays.

e-paper tablet maker Remarkable raises $15 million

Remarkable, the company behind the reMarkable 10.3" 1872 x 1404 E Ink tablet has closed another financing round, raising $15 million from Spark Capital. This follows its $10 million seed rounds, and the company will use the new funds to accelerate its growth and launch R&D to develop future products.

The reMarkable's display is relatively fast (55 ms) and supports pen input. The device is based on a Linux OS and features include 8GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, a 1Ghz ARM A9 CPU, 3,000mAh battery and ePub and PDF file support. The reMarkable is now shipping for $599.
