LTS to utilize E Ink's new low-voltage displays to develop a smart medical patch solution

E Ink Holdings and and LTS (Lohmann-Therapie Systeme) AG announced a partnership to co-develop an e-paper powered smart medical patch solution. The Transdermal Therapeutic System (TTS), which delivers medication to patients directly, features an E Ink display to display the statue of the delivery system.

The current prototype that has been developed use a 2-inch E Ink display, a switch and a pressure sensor. The display has several options, including a timer, corrector and reminder. E Ink says that this is the first application to use E Ink's new low-voltage film that uses 50-70% of the typical driving voltage for E Ink displays, and so can be used with a smaller battery than before.

Q&A with Sri Peruvemba, Visionect's new board member and E Ink veteran

Sri Peruvemba sketchVisionect recently appointed Sri Pervuemba to its board of directory. Sri is a long time display veteran and was E Ink's chief marketing manager for over 10 years. Sri is also a good friend and has been supporting E-Ink-Info from its launch. Sri was kind enough to answer a few questions we had regarding the e-paper market and Visionect's technology and platform.

But first, an official bio: Sri Peruvemba is the CEO of Marketer International. His 25 years of experience in the electronics industry include marketing LCD, CRT, TFEL, OLED, LED, Plasma and ePaper displays into the consumer, mobile, industrial, medical, signage and TV markets. He earned a BSEE, a MBA and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management. He was previously CMO for E Ink and also held senior level positions at Sharp Corp, TFS Inc., Planar Systems and Suntronic Technology. Peruvemba currently serves as Director on the Board of Visionect Inc., as well as on the board of the Society for Information Display(SID).

Hanhaa starts to deploy its ParceLive service, which uses an E Ink enhanced parcel tracker

Hanhaa announced that it is starting to deploy its ParceLive service with its first logistics partners. PriceLive is designed to be used as a tracking device for high-value, fragile, and time- or temperature-sensitive packages.

The ParceLive tracker is a mobile-connected device that is inserted in the parcel and then provides real-time information on the location, condition and security of the shipment. It uses a small E Ink display which displays an international returns license.

San Diego Airport unveils the world's largest e-paper installation

The San Diego airport new rental car center building installed the world's largest e-paper installation called Dazzle. Design team Ueberall International used more then 2,000 solar-powered E Ink Prism tiles to create Dazzle.

The art program manager at the San Diego Airport says that this installation will be viewed daily by hundreds of thousands of airport visitors and motorists on the nearby Interstate 5 freeway. This is an example of a sustainable, programmable and exciting new art installation. The entire installation had a budget of $875,000, which is about $437 per panel, but of course the price of each panel also includes the wireless communication devices, solar panels, software and more.

E Ink demonstrates a foldable 10.2" e-paper prototype

E Ink has unveiled a new prototype foldable E Ink display at SID 2017. The display which you can see below in the video (which also shows many other E Ink demonstrations from SID) is 10.2" in size and features a 220 PPI - similar to E Ink existing flexible Mobius displays.

You can see in the video that the display does not fold completely, there's still a gap - the bending radius is 7.5 mm.

E Ink launches seven new Prism colors

In 2015 E Ink announced its Prism technology, which uses flexible E Ink materials to create large-area animated walls or furniture that can respond to input. Today E Ink announced it is adding seven new colors, which can be integrate together to create beautiful new Prism designs.

The new colors are Voyage (dark blue), Daydream (cyan), Blush (red), Sprout (green), Zest (yellow), Harvest (brown) and Waltz (black). E Ink sees applications for Prism in the commercial, hospitality, transportation, healthcare, retail and education markets.

Japan Display developed a 400-600 PPI E Ink backplane

Japan Display (JDI) announced that it has developed the world's highest-definition e-paper backplane, that enables E Ink dispalys to reach 400-600 PPI. This development is the first achievement of the strategic alliance between JDI and E Ink announced in November 2016.

The new backplane is based on LTPS (the same backplane used for high-end LCD and OLED displays) and enables e-paper displays o reach WXGA and FHD resolutions.

Visionect launches a new 13.3" digital E Ink sign

Visionect announced a new 13.3" E Ink based sign display called OneThree. This battery-powered wireless display is a "place & play" digital sign that can display information in any place.

The OneThree casing is made of fully recyclable aluminum and glass and the display is a low-power E Ink display (Visionect says that it uses as much energy in a year as it takes to boil a cup of water). The OneThree will start shipping in the fall of 2017.
