In June 2016 Terrada announced its Gvido E Ink sheet music device, that lets you see sheet music pages (PDFs) on two 13.3" flexible (Mobius) E Ink displays. The company now announced that it plans to start shipping this innovative device by the end of 2017.

The device also includes input via a stylus (Wacom). The device features Wi-Fi, bluetooth, 8GB of internal memory and micro SD slot. The whole device weighs only 650 grams.

HP Developed a new system, called IonTouch, which enables cheap and easy "paperless" printing. The basic idea is that IonTouch can be used to "print" small displays for applications such as calling cards, QR Codes, badges and more.

Those cards are based on E Ink, and so does not require any power while the image stays - and of course the image can be changed with the "printing" equipment. Each display is a 2.5" 300x300 monochrome (16 grayscales) E Ink panel. HP is aiming for a low-cost solution and each display will cost less than $2 to make.

E Ink and Sony Semiconductor Solutions announced a joint venture with an aim to develop, manufacture and market products that use e-paper displays. Sony and E Ink Holdings will have about 70% of the shares in the new JV, while the rest will be owned by venture capital companies.

Sony has been using E Ink displays since 2004, first with its e-reader devices (it is still offering its large 13.3" flexible E Ink based reader, but the smaller ones are no longer in production) and later with wearables and other unique products.

E Ink iPhone case developer PopSlate announced that the company has entered into the legal process for dissolution of the company, and current customers that ordered its PopSlate 2 case will not get their products or be issued a refund

In early 2016 PopSlate raised $1.1 million in a crowd funding campaign to develop the PopSlate 2 - which was supposed to offer a 4.7" 800x450 E Ink display for the back of your phone.

E Ink announced a new collaboration with Texen, a provider of product solutions for the luxury and beauty market, to bring personalized packaging solutions to cosmetic customers. The companies demonstrated a smart packaging design for customizable packaging displays for makeup compacts, perfume bottles and other cosmetic packaging.

The E Ink display is powered purely by near field communications (NFC) and can be updated by a smartphone that generates radio frequency signals carrying both the information and energy needed to update the display. E Ink and Texen are already taking customers orders for the new solution.

Dasung launched the Paperlike - a 13.3" 1600x1200 USB E Ink monitor back in 2015, and it started shipping the displays last month (for $1,049) on Amazon. The company now reports that it is sold out completely - after shipping to customers from 50 countries in the past year.

According to the GoodEReader, Dasung is unlikely to produce more such displays as it is readying on a next-generation 13.3" e-reader / monitor that will function as a secondary display via Bluetooth. The resolution of the new device will be 2200x1650 (207 PPI). Dasung says it will be powered by either Android or Windows 10.

Sony's FES Watch (and the 2nd-Gen FES Watch U) is covered with a flexible E Ink display so you can change the design of the watch and the write-band at will. At CES 2017 Sony is showing a next-generation FES Watch prototype that uses a color E Ink display as you can see below

Sony's new FES color Watch is just a prototype at this stage, the company did not reveal any commercialization plans yet...

E Ink launched its largest ePaper module yet, a 42" 2160x2880 (85 DPI) panel. E Ink is demonstrating this panel at CES 2017, and it is also the same panel used by QuirkLogic's Quilla system unveiled a couple of days ago.

E Ink did not yet disclose the availability of this new module, hopefully we will hear more soon.

The Triby is Invoxia's new connected speaker. It can play music from your cell phone (or connect to music apps like spotify), make in-group VoIP calls and send messages, on top of being the first non-Amazon device to take advantage of the Alexa Voice Service. The Triby includes a 2.9" active-matrix (296x128, 112 PPI) E Ink panel, and the company was kind enough to send a review unit to E-Ink-Info.

The Triby is a great looking device, with a fun design that can be defined as retro-chic. It actually reminded me of an old-school kitchen radio - which it sort of is, but with a modern twist. The Triby has physical buttons for options like volume control, contact/radio station selection and an Alexa button. A nice touch was a yellow flag that pops out the side of the device to signal receiving a message. After someone reads the message, they can push the flag back in and the sender will get a notification that their message was read.
