E Ink and Vanzo developed a dual-screen mobile phone reference platform

E Ink Holdings announced that it collaborated with Vanzo Technology to develop a dual-screen mobile phone turnkey solution. The system is based on the MediaTek (MTK) platform and combines E Ink e Paper technology with Vanzo’s software and APP.

E Ink says that this new solution will enable mobile phone makers to shorten product development time and investment for dual screen devices.

E Ink developed a 2.9" E Ink turnkey NFC solution

E Ink Holdings developed a new 2.9" E Ink ultra-thin display turn key solution. The new system combines the e-paper display with a complete system for customers to use in mobile terminal devices.

E Ink says that the new display is especially suited as a secondary smartphone display. The system does not use a battery and rely on NFC for the driving power and data transmission.

Jiangxi Holitech to ship 6-8 million e-labels in 2016

China-based Jiangxi Holitech expects to ship 6-8 million electronic labels and 10-12 million electronic label modules in 2016. I'm not sure what is the difference between these two terms, but both will use E Ink displays. The company is in talks with 10 leading supermarket chains interested in adopting the new e-labels.

In October 2015, E Ink Holdings announced a strategic partnership with Jiangxi Holitech Technology to on EPD displays to mobile phones, wearable devices, retail electronic labels and digital price-tags.

E Ink Holdings' 2015 profit grew to $16.7 million

E Ink Holdings reported their financial results for 2015. The ePaper maker says the profit grew to $16.7 million (up from $0.4 million in 2014) mostly due to higher royalty income and better gross margins (31% in 2015, up from 22% in 2014).

E Ink's royalties come from its LCD business, as its subsidiary Hydis Technologies owns some important LCD patents that it licenses to other makers. Hydis itself stopped making LCDs in 2014.

CHK to introduce E Ink digital bus stops and other public transportation information solutions

CHK America, a designer of public transportation customer information solution signed an agreement with E Ink to co-develop advanced digital wayfinding solutions utilizing E Ink technology.

The first products to introduce are Digital Bus Stops (as you can see above). These provide easily-readable up dated bus stop schedule and work under all lighting conditions. CHK is also developing additional E Ink based products across various industry sectors including transit agencies and smart city developers.

Visionect introduces a 32" color/B&W E Ink development kit

Visionect, together with E Ink, launched a new 32" E Ink development kit. This new dev kit supports the largest e-paper module in production. The new kit is available either in monochrome (2560x1440, 16-level grayscale) or color (1280x720).

Both kits feature ab LED front-light and an integrated ambient light sensor. The kits are already on offer at Visionect's online store.

E Ink plans to start producing large E Ink panels

Back in June 2014, E Ink (together with GDS) developed a 32" 2560x1440 E Ink display, which is the world's largest e-paper panel. According to a new report, E Ink aims to produce even larger panels, with the first one being released later in 2016.

E Ink's chairman admits that the company does not have sufficient production capacity to produce large E Ink panels in volume, and it will have to look for manufacturing partners. The company prefers to find a partner in Taiwan - AU Optronics, Innolux and Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) are all possible partners.

E Ink invest in Wuxi Vision Peak, to collaborate on e-paper applications

E Ink announced announced an investment it made in Wuxi Vision Peak Technology (previously Wuxi Wei Feng Technology), a service provider in e-paper display R&D.

E Ink (which invested in Wuxi via its subsidiary Transcend Optronics) and Wuxi Vision Peak will form a strategic partnership and join foruces to expand the E Ink market and promote the use of e-paper in applciations such as electronic price tags and electronic shelf labels. Besides the investment, E Ink will provide technical support.

E Ink and China's Jiangxi Holitech to collaborate on E Ink displays

E Ink Holdings announced a strategic partnership with Chinese LCD panel maker Jiangxi Holitech Technology. E Ink will collaborate with JiangXi to expand the use of EPD displays to mobile phones, wearable devices, retail electronic labels and digital price-tags.

E Ink hopes that this new agreement will allow them to boost their market share in China's e-paper display market. E Ink will supply displays and modules to Jiangxi - and will also provide advanced technologies to help Jiangxi develop E Ink based devices.
