E Ink, HTC and Palladio to co-develop smart medication packaging labels

E Ink announced a partnership with HTC Healthcare and the Palladio Group to develop E Ink smart medication packaging labels. The three companies will develop an IoT-based smart device and smartphone software that will improve medication adherence.

The E Ink label will display personalized content that can be pushed to the packaging label as a communication interface, delivering vital information to patients and creating a gateway to improve patient engagement.

Rumors say Apple is considering a secondary E Ink display in future iPhones

A report by the Taiwanese the Economic Daily News suggests that Apple requested display samples from E Ink Holdings, as the iPhone maker is considering adding a secondary E Ink panel to future devices.

Even if this report is true, this is still a very early stage and can even indicate a testing request and nothing more. E Ink did not confirm the reports, of course, saying that "We are aggressively exploring business opportunities to use our e-paper displays as secondary screens on mobile phones". Stocks in E Ink Holdings soared to an almost four-year high following this report, though.

E Ink and Toppan Printing developed a 32" color flexible e-paper display

E Ink, in collaboration with TOppan Printing, developed a 32" flexible color E Ink display. The companies presented a first prototype, and the plan is to produce this display by the end of 2017.

This is the largest color flexible E Ink ever developed. We already saw flexible 32" Mobius E Ink panels, but these were black and white. This display uses color-filters produced by Toppan. The display is 0.4 mm thick and it can be curved (it is not truly flexible by the end user). The companies say that this new display offer a higher color gamut compared to previous color E Ink displays.

E Ink installs a prototype 32" E Ink display in Boston's city hall

In June 2014 (exactly two years ago), E Ink and GDS announced the world's largest e-paper module, a 32" 2560x1440 display that targets digital signage and information kiosk applications.

A few days ago, E Ink and GDS installed a prototype 32" solar-powered E Ink display on Boston's City Hall Plaza. The sign will provide information on local events and help residents and visitors locate nearby landmarks

E Ink signs a 5-year e-paper shelf label supply deal with Media Markt

According to the Economic Daily News, E InK Holdings signed a 5-year supply agreement with Germany-based consumer electronics retail chain, for the supply of electric shelf labels (ESLs).

E Ink says that it already cooperated with 20 retail chains around the world, to perform ESL trials, but this may be the company's first large-scale deployment agreement.

E Ink demonstrate new color and flexible e-Paper panels at SID 2016

E Ink had a very interesting booth at SID 2016, showcasing its new color e-paper displays, and also other new and existing displays and prototypes.

First up, we have E Ink's new Advanced Color ePaper (ACeP), which is a high-quality full-color E Ink display. ACeP enables rich-color displays, which is enabled by colored pigments and not color-filters like in E Ink's older color displays.

E Ink and Canatu to offer flexible touch E Ink displays for wearable applications

E Ink and Canatu announced a new partnership, to develop a line of flexible touch displays for the wearable markets. The first product will be ready next month (July 2016) - a bendable ultra-thin (0.162 mm) 6.3" touch-enabled E Ink display.

The new display will have a resolution of 200x1040 (169 PPI) with 16 gray levels. It's short and long and suitable for applications such as bracelets and other wrist worn devices. The two companies will hopefully offer other display sizes in the future too.

E Ink Holdings reports lower revenues and a loss in Q1 2016

E Ink Holdings reported its financial results for Q1 2016 - revenues were  NT$2.5 billion ($76.6 million USD) and the net loss was NT$272 million ($3.84 USD) - down from a net profit of NT$766 in Q4 2015 (but up from a loss of $1.23 billion in Q1 2015).

EIH says that its licensing revenues from Hydis FFS LCD technology is lower than it used to be because the display industry is shifting from LCD to OLED technologies.
