Alaska Airlines to launch E Ink based baggage tags

US airline Alaska Airlines launched a new smart baggage tag system, that uses E Ink labels. The company, which says it is the first in the US to adopt the technology, will offer 2,500 such tags for its frequent flyers, at no cost.

The new tags will allow users to avoid using printed bag tags, and the activation of the device can be done using a smartphone 24 hours before the flight. This means that almost the whole check-in process can be performed at home.

reMarkable sold over a million E Ink tablets, raises funds at a $1 billion valuation

Remarkable, the company behind the reMarkable 10.3" 1872 x 1404 E Ink tablet says that it has sold over 1 million devices, generating over $300 million in revenue in 2021 (with an operating profit of $31 million).

reMarkable says it closed a new financing round, with a valuation of $1 billion. The company did not disclose more about the funding round - beyond saying that they have sold a minority stake for several international investors.

Is Apple testing color E Ink displays for future foldable phones and tablets?

Respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple is testing E Ink color ePaper display, for two different future devices. Apple is especially interested in E Ink displays due to their efficient power consumption.

The first device that Apple is testing is a tablet-like devices, while the second is a foldable phone. The foldable phone, which will use a foldable OLED inside, will require a cover display - for which an E Ink display can be highly suitable

E Ink announces the improved Gallery 3 ACeP color ePaper display

E Ink announced its latest color ePaper display, the Gallery 3, targeting applications in eReaders and Notes devices.

The Gallery 3 is based on E Ink's ACeP (Advanced Color ePaper) platform, where a full-color gamut is achieved through a four particle ink system: cyan, magenta, yellow and white, which allows a full color gamut at each pixel. Gallery 3 displays offers a faster refresh rate (350 ms for black and white, 500-1500 ms for color refresh), a substantial improvement over the first generation E Ink Gallery (which offers a black and white update in 2 seconds, and full-color in up to 10 seconds).

E Ink announces a new five-color ePaper display for retail applications

E Ink announced a new display type, called the E Ink Spectra 3100 Plus, which is a five-color ePaper aimed towards retail applications. The new displays support black, white, red, yellow and orange colors. This display is an enhancement of E Ink's current four-color Spectra 3100 ePaper, adding the new orange color.

E Ink will produce the Spectra 3100 Plus displays in a variety of sizes, including 1.64-inch, 2.36-inch, 3-inch, 4.37-inch, 7.3-inch and 8.14-inch.

E Ink partners with six display makers to increase production capacity of its latest ACeP color ePaper displays

E Ink announced that it is seeing increased demand for color ePaper displays, and it is working with six module production partners to promote its color (ACeP) displays and to increase production capacities of its Gallery Palette and Gallery plus panels.

The six partners are BOE Technology, DKE, Jiangxi Xing Tai Technology, Innolux Corporation, Qingyue Technology, and Yes Optoelectronics. E Ink supplies the color ePaper frontplane materials while the module makers manufacture the color ePaper modules in various sizes and shapes.

E Ink launches Gallery Plus ACeP displays with improved colors and contrast

E Ink announced a new generation of its Advanced Color ePaper (ACeP) display, called the E Ink Gallery Plus. This full color display offers an improved contrast ratio and color gamut compared to the previous generation displays. E Ink targets commercial signage for these displays - such as retail, restaurants, transportation and public information displays.

E Ink says that the Gallery Plus displays, based on the ACeP platform, is a full-color electronic ink system with four color pigments: cyan, magenta, yellow, and white. The contrast ratio is improved by 40% (from 10 to 14). E Ink Gallery Plus will be available in various sizes for customers, including 13.3-inch, 25.3-inch, and 28-inch.

E Ink displays first to receive Dark Sky Certification

E Ink announced that it has received the Dark Sky Certification from the International Dark Sky Association (IDA). E Ink is the first display technology to be certified through the IDA - which makes sense as E Ink displays do not emit light, and rely on ambient lighting.

E Ink explains that as cities continue to become smarter, and strive to provide timely information and communication to their citizens, the balance between delivering that information, environmental concerns and the aesthetic of a town becomes more important. Cities are striving to keep citizens safe and informed, while also considering their carbon footprint, and the electricity wasted on lighting that is overly bright, poorly targeted, and sometimes unnecessary.

Saule Technologies launches perovskite solar based ESL technology

Poland-based perovskite solar developer Sulate Technologies launched a new technology that integrates perovskite solar panels with ePaper Electronic Shelf Labels. The company says that these are the first ESLs of its kind, and they use either 2-color or 3-color E Ink panels.

Perovskite solar panels are highly efficient, and can maintain their high efficiency in artificial light, and also in indirect indoor lighting, which makes this solution viable in many installation environments, unlike conventional solar-based solar panels. The perovskite panels are also highly flexible, light and thin.
