EIH increases color e-paper production capacity, provides a positive outlook for H2 2020

E Ink Holdings says that color e-paper will become more and more important for the company, and it is increasing its capacity as demand is growing - by the end of 2020 it will increase its capacity by 10-fold, and it is likely to increase production capacity further in 2021.

The company also provided a positive outlook for the 2nd half of 2020, as demand for electronic shelf labels (ESL) is increasing - in H1 2020 E Ink shipped as many ESL displays as it did in the whole of 2019. The company's chairman says that 4% of the world's retailers have adopted electronic shelf labels

E Ink and TCL CSoT to produce 42-inch E Ink TFT backplanes on a 8.5-Gen production line

E Ink Holdings announced a partnership with TCL's CSoT (China Star Optoelectronics) to produce 42-inch E Ink TFT backplanes at CSoT's 8.5-Gen production line. This will be the world's largest substrate E Ink TFT backplane facility.

Producing the backplanes on larger substrate will enable E Ink and CSoT to increase the efficiency and reduce the production costs. The two companies did not disclose when the new display backplanes will enter production.

eVideon and E Ink Holdings to to provide hospitals with energy-efficient ePaper whiteboards displays

eVideon announced a strategic alliance with E Ink Holdings to provide hospitals with energy-efficient ePaper whiteboards and digital patient door displays.

The companies says that the ePaper displays do not emit any unwated blue light, and will be particularly beneficial for patients who prefer sleeping in a dark environment. These displays can be powered by batteries or by power over Ethernet and so can be easy to install and maintain.

Yiwu Qing Yue Optoelectronics to produce E Ink ESLs for the Chinese market

E Ink Holdings announced that China-based Yiwu Qing Yue Optoelectronics has become a member of its ePaper ecosystem partnership. EIH says that Yiwu Qing Yue will be one of the main suppliers of Electronic Shelf Labels (ESL) modules to the retail market.

Yiwu Qing Tue will assemble ESL modules based on E Ink displays. EIH hopes the company will be able to increase its penetration into the Chinese markets.

EIH posts its highest quarterly profit in 9 years

E Ink Holdings reported its Q1 2020 results. The company's net profit ($26.23 million) was its highest in nine years. The company expects its growth to continue in Q2 2020 with strong demand for electronic shelf labels and color e-paper displays, mainly for e-readers.

EIH to integrate Energous' wireless charging technology in future IoT EPD displays

Wireless charging developer Energous announced a partnership with E Ink Holdings to develop WattUp-enabled Electronic Paper Display (EPD) tags for IoT displays such as logistics tags, electronic shelf labels and retail signage.

The goal of this new collaboration is to embed Energous' technology inside the EPD display, which will create displays that can be charged wirelessly at distances up to 15 feet away.

ePaper displays in 2020 - a market snapshot

Most people when they think about ePaper displays immediate think about E Ink. E Ink Holdings (EIH) has been very successful in bringing its ePaper displays to the market - and today these are prevalent in e-readers, electronic shelf labels, e-notebooks and many other applications. While EIH indeed has a clear leadership in the ePaper market, it is not alone.

But first of all, it is important to note that there are many display technologies that could be called ePaper displays. Most people would only consider truly bi-stable displays able to show dot-matrix images as ePaper displays, but some other technologies that are not truly bi-stable also exist and some consider these as ePaper displays as well - for example Memory LCDs. In addition some simpler displays technologies that are similar to ePaper in properties also exist. We will discuss both these technologies in this article.

E Ink and Innolux join forces to bring next-gen color ACeP E Ink displays to market

E Ink Holdings announced a collaboration with Taiwan-based display maker Innolux to develop large-size color (ACeP) panels. Specially, EIH will produce ACeP E Ink displays and Innolux will produce display modules and promote them to the market.

The two companies will focus on IoT and Smart City applications. Some example of target applications include public transportation signage (including metro, railway, trains and buses), in-vehicle signage and retail signage.
